February Newsletter

February is here, which means membership renewal time! All current members will receive a letter (email) regarding updated terms and conditions of specific membership types. To summarize, as the demand for golf continues to grow, membership has increased dramatically. In particular, we are seeing a large increase in full members (Dual / 6 & 7-Day).  At Ottinger Golf, we take that commitment to our courses very seriously. Our response is to ensure the member experience is better than ever.

We will do everything we can to service our Full Members and provide as much access as possible. That has forced us to change the parameters in which we can provide access (advanced tee times) to some of our other membership options. This by no means is us saying we won’t continue to do our best for ALL memberships, we just want to be transparent in any changes we are making. This way you have all of the information and can make the appropriate decision on what option is best for your golf needs.

If you have any questions regarding membership, PLEASE call or email me at 609-236-4400 ext. 126 or burke@ottingergolf.com.

- Mike Burke, Director of Golf

Another great example of our commitment to excellence, is our BRAND NEW Golf Carts that have recently arrived at Atlantic City Country Club. These carts are way more than just a pretty face. They are equipped with the newest technology and gadgets that should translate into an enhanced experience on the golf course.

First and foremost, they are powered by Lithium Ion batteries which are much more efficient than the lead acid model. This translates to a cart that weighs approximately 200 pounds lighter. That is a significant difference that in-turn will put less wear and tear on the golf course turf.

All carts feature state-of-the-art GPS touchscreen computers that provide the player with:

  •  Detailed descriptions of each golf hole.
  •  Yardage numbers to cover hazards and bunkers.
  •  Numbers to front, middle, and back of all greens.
  •  Live On-Course scoring.
  •  Ability to order refreshments and/or food.

Each cart also comes with Bluetooth speakers, as well as USB ports for charging your phone or other electronic devices. We could go on and on about everything these carts can do, but we’d rather have you come to the club and try them first hand.

This is a preliminary list of scheduled events for 2021. We reserve the right to adjust a few dates as needed, but go ahead and mark these on your calendar now!

Please welcome all of our new members who have joined us over the last month. We look forward to seeing you on the course and playing in the member events!

Membership renewals have been sent out both via standard mail (with the standing of mail right now, don’t hold your breath) and email. If you haven’t received your renewal, please reach out to one of the golf shops to inquire.

As we stated in the membership letters, this year we are proactively taking the necessary steps to make sure you have access to the golf courses. It is no secret that golf and memberships saw a big increase and were in demand after the craziness of 2020, but it is good news as a member. If you are not a member, you will have a tough time getting access to the golf courses.

Sim Fall Session is complete and congratulations to the Flight winners.  It was a good turnout of 24 teams with skins money galore!

Flight 1: Mitch Brown & Nick Borro
Flight 2: Mark Bond & Gary Feinberg
Flight 3: Bob Bryan & Doug Sauder
Flight 4: Derek Halkes & Mike Cifelli

Sim Winter Session I is now underway with an even better turnout of 36 teams broken up into six flights. Thank you to all those that joined and good luck over the next few weeks!

If you’ve stopped by the club recently, I’m sure you’ve noticed that the drive in looks a little different near the parking lot. We’ve always had some challenges when it comes to staging golf carts. They would get lined up in the road along with carts coming off of the golf course and it just created a lot of congestion in an area that should be clear. We had some trees removed and the area leveled and graded, which created an area big enough to stage every cart in our fleet without having to utilize the entrance road. This improvement should lead to a much more efficient operation for staff and guests. I hope everyone is staying safe and healthy, we’ll see you on the course.

Scott Rose – Superintendent Ballamor GC

We are knee deep in the middle of a tee renovation project on #15 that ties into the 14th green surround. The tee complex has been completely dug out and we added fresh topsoil with the secret superintendent recipe the grass needs to thrive. In addition, the area between the 15th  tee and the 14th  green is being renovated by removing trees, softening the mound around the 14th green and amending the soils for better turf conditions both around and on the green. Tune in next month for the final pictures!

If anyone has ever watched the movie “Rain man,” they will appreciate the sense of urgency in that line.

I woke up on Monday realizing it ‘s February 1.  To me, it means winter is at the halfway point and we are about six weeks away from our spring aerification process.  The golf season will be here before you know it, and we ’ll be at it again!

The off season is flying by, and the grounds department still has a number of items to button up.  We are in the process of rebuilding the 2 back tees on #13, which I hope to have ready sometime in April. We continue to work on cart paths to better protect the course and allow carts out on very wet days. We’ve tried to improve the path running from #14 green to #16 tee.  We’ve extended the path on #10 to avoid the low area near the approach.  We will also create a path along the right side on #2 before our season begins.

Another item worth sharing is, starting March 30, every Tuesday we will open at 9:00 a.m.  This coincides with the range being closed each Tuesday morning for maintenance.  I’m excited to use those mornings to do applications, irrigate, topdress, and to complete other practices that promise to provide you all with a better experience throughout the season.  Before you know it, we’ll all be wearing shorts again…except Charlie and Dylan.  See you soon and conditions are great in the simulator room!
