March Newsletter

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

DETAILS... DETAILS... DETAILS...

We have talked a lot about our golf course projects this off season. Whether it applies to the health of the turf, the aesthetics of a hole or directly to the golfing experience, they are all important factors. I am so proud of everything that we have undertaken this year and equally excited about the future projects we have planned.

As we get closer to the season, I am reminded of all the little things that add up to enhance the experience as well. I wanted to take this month’s newsletter as an opportunity to bring more attention to those details.

One of those that comes to mind this time of year is the upcoming aeration. Spring aeration is a vital process that we must take to prepare the courses for the upcoming season. We will be taking extra time at each of our clubs to ensure we are more ready than ever. I am asking for your patience during this time and to use it as an opportunity to enjoy one of our other courses if your favorite might be closed. It is a great asset to have at your disposal. Take advantage of it whenever you can.

Another detail that you may not notice on a regular basis are the course amenities. Mark Beaumont will be elaborating more in the “Superintendent’s Corner”. I wanted to focus specifically on our tee markers. We made a concerted effort at Ballamor last season on tee placement and how it can affect both the golfing experience and also pace of play. We will continue to work on that at all properties. I encourage member feedback in this always.

We took it a step further this year and designed brand new tee markers for Scotland Run and Ballamor. We really hope that you appreciate the final product. It truly was a TEAM effort, with a lot of back and forth. We really think we nailed it and cannot wait for you to see them on the course! Check out the pictures in the Superintendent’s Corner.

SUPERINTENDENT'S CORNER

IT'S MORE THAN JUST A COURSE

The season is quickly approaching, and we continue to work on our offseason projects. But one task that many of you may not be aware of, is the refurbishing of our amenities. When I say “amenities,” I am referring to our unique tee markers, ball washers, trash cans, bag stands, and flag sticks.

I have always been very proud of our tee markers and ball washers! They are so specific to our property, and really lend to the experience and compliment the history of the course. They stand out and add to the overall ambiance of taking a step back in time. Our own Vern Clarke is the man responsible for all the craftsmanship and hard work that goes into creating the “Bell” markers and ball washers.

Every year Vern inspects each bell and replaces any damaged bell or knob, then paints and lacquers them to create a brand-new look each spring. He repairs any of the damaged ball washers and our staff sands and stains them to provide a fresh appearance each season.

In addition to the markers and ball washers, Vern has built new bag stands for the range, and has built a few new trash cans to be placed on the course as well. He takes a tremendous amount of pride in his craft and it shows. From the bell markers to the handmade water cooler stands that are placed throughout the property.

I know I truly love our “on course” amenities, and I appreciate all the effort it takes to make them. Hopefully you all enjoy the uniqueness of them as well!
