A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

A Message From the Director

The new season is finally upon us! Atlantic City Country Club is fully private once again. Let me say that again, “ATLANTIC CITY COUNTRY CLUB IS FULLY PRIVATE!” That is a big deal. Perhaps “HISTORIC” is the best term to describe what it means to everyone and to the golf community. Obviously, we would not have accomplished such a feat without you. Thank you for all of your support and efforts to get us here. Onward and upward as they say!

I hope all of our projects/improvements are proof that we are not satisfied with status quo. Thank you for your patience with the parking lot construction. Trust me when I tell you that the finished product will make it all worth it. Stay tuned for more announcements on additional projects we plan on completing at each property. Just as you have invested in our success, we want to re-invest in ourselves and our future.

The Ballamor and Scotland Run membership has responded as well. The growth seen at both properties is exciting to say the least. We remain committed to creating and maintaining a top notch golf and membership EXPERIENCE at all of our properties. Please take the time to look at all of the member events we have planned for the year. Anything we might have missed, or any additional ideas are definitely welcome.

Please remember, my door is always open for any member.

- Mike Burke, Director of Golf

MEMBER EVENTS

IN LIKE A LION

Our first event of the new membership year kicks off Saturday, March 5, as the new golf season roars in like a lion.  We have over 60 people signed up which is excellent this early in the season!  The weather looks great with temperatures in the 50’s - much better than the frigid Brave the Elements event at Scotland Run in January!

SIM LEAGUES

We will NOT be holding the Spring Session for the Simulators as everybody is ready to get back outside. Here is the recap from the Winter Session, with a couple results still outstanding. Congratulations to the winners!

HOLY EVENTS

Here it is, the full event list schedule for the year. Dates, and especially times, are subject to change as we get closer to the event, but this gives you a good idea of what’s happening in 2022. We will likely add a few events in the late fall season.

AERIFICATION

A reminder of the upcoming greens aerification dates scheduled for each club. We will also be doing fairways and tee boxes throughout the month of March.

Atlantic City CC | March 14 - 16

Ballamor GC | March 21 - 23

Scotland Run GC |  March 28 - 30

We will also be doing fairways and tee boxes throughout the month to make that grass happy for April!

BEFORE YOU BUY, GET FIT!

Spring means manufacturers are releasing new products. I can’t stress enough how important it is for every player of every skill level to be fitted for their clubs! You should get the specs of your clubs checked every year, because your swing changes especially if you’re taking lessons.

With today’s technology alone, your game will improve even if your swing doesn’t! But of course, if you pair club fitting together with taking lessons and practice, practice, practice – you will see improvement in your game. We will host manufacture specific club fittings at each club throughout the year, but we can fit you anytime with our simulators. So, if you’re looking for some more distance, I’m sure there is a shaft or a new driver head out there that can help you achieve that goal!

THE BLACK-EYED PEAS SAY, “PUMP IT, LOUDER!”

Hello March, it’s time to start ramping up operations to get the course ready for the golf season. Warmer weather is coming, which means Spring aerification, pre-emergent applications, fertilizer applications, and wrapping up a few small projects.

At the end of the month we are expecting the delivery of our new pump station, this is exciting! For those of you that don’t know, the building on #13 tee box is our pump house. I know it might be hard for you as a golfer to get excited about this, but it is the heart of the operation in the summer months and is the first step in our complete irrigation project we have been planning for the past year. This is a huge investment into the future of Scotland Run Golf Club.  During the month of February, we have been going over plans to decide the best options for Scotland Run Golf Club and Ottinger Golf as a whole. The really exciting stuff doesn’t start up until the end of the year, but we will keep you posted. The future is bright and going to be a lot of fun!

Jeff England – Scotland Run GC Superintendent

The crew will be busy throughout the month punching holes to get us ready for the season.

BIRDS-EYE VIEW

Hopefully, the worst of the winter weather is behind us, and we can all begin to enjoy more time outside. As you can see from the pictures, we’ve been very busy with the work behind the tee on #12. What exactly are we doing? That tee box has struggled in recent years due to a few factors, most notably, lack of sunlight and air movement. By removing the trees, we have increased the amount of sunlight and air flow to that tee which should result in a much healthier tee surface for you to use. The rough around that tee has also struggled due to issues with the trees. Once the grading is finished, we will be sodding around the tee and the remaining area will be seeded with fine fescue all the way to the property fence. See you soon!

SPRING TRAINING

March is finally here, and Spring is just around the corner! It is time for us to begin our preparations for a new season. We will begin the aerification process this month, which includes greens, tees, and fairways. The sooner we start, the sooner we recover.

One of our main priorities each Spring is the bunkers. This involves raking the bunker and trying to relieve any compaction of the sand. Our bunker sand tends to get compacted and very firm, due to the specific shape of the sand particle. The sand is what is referred to as subangular, which is very beneficial when it comes to rain events. It will stay in place during most torrential rains, which makes for less labor when cleaning up after a storm, but on the other hand, the bunkers can get too firm if we don’t periodically till the sand. While moving the sand around, we also check the depth to determine where additional sand is needed.

We will be working on this for the next month or so to hopefully provide you with the best experience possible. We can’t wait to see you all out on the course for what promises to be a great golfing season!
