November Newsletter

A MESSAGE FROM THE DIRECTOR

I believe we have succeeded in creating a fun, relaxed, family atmosphere for our members. A place they can feel at home, especially with the pandemic and the many ways that it has affected all of us. There were not enough activities that we could do that felt quite as “normal” as golf. That does not have to stop just because the weather is changing, and the days shortening. Our simulators were put in place first and foremost for the Members. If you have not tried them already, I encourage you to please give them a shot.

I assure you that they are another tool to help fine tune your game. Take the time to learn the numbers and have our staff help educate you on exactly how they work. Tiger Woods has these exact simulators at his house. If they can help someone as good as him or as average as myself, then something must be right! And even if you’re not into that, at the very least you can play any of the 86 golf courses on the simulators to get in your swings!

As members, you get priority access and discounted rates. Not just for regular tee times, but also for the room rental. It’s a great place to have a party. It has been used for everything from kids’ parties to couples’ night dinners to intense Ryder Cup tournaments. We also have weekly member leagues and skins games that start in November and run throughout the off season. The sessions run for approximately six weeks, so there are several opportunities to participate. Most of the golf staff play in these leagues with members. Again, we want to share in the experience and get to know each other like any other family.

If you are concerned about COVID-19, I hear you and want to personally assure you that we are doing everything we can to minimize risk. The size of the simulator room at Atlantic City CC alone, allows for easy compliance of social distancing guidelines. With that being said, we will also be taking all of the following precautions and steps to provide the safest environment possible:

  • Each hitting bay will be cleaned thoroughly between tee times.
  • Setting a 4-person occupancy for each simulator.
  • Masks are required unless you are seated and eating / drinking.
  • If you are not playing, you will be asked to stay in upstairs seating section.
  • Private bathrooms are easily accessible right in the back of simulator room.
  • Hand sanitizing stations are available throughout the facility.

MEMBER EVENTS

SCOTLAND RUN MEMBER-GUEST

Wow! What a turnout for our first-ever Member-Guest Tournament at Scotland Run GC. It was a picture perfect fall day, 70 degrees and not a cloud to be found in the sky. Members and staff all seemed to comment on just how truly special the event and the day turned out to be. Thanks to all the members and their guests who were so complimentary to the staff that day as well. Even down to the finish, 1st playoff hole in the shootout someone got boinked in the head by an approach shot. Wonder how many of you knew the ruling on that by the way? Feel free to tell Brian Hecker what you think the ruling is next time you see him for kicks to see if you were right, no cheating!

RYDER CUP

Congratulations to Team Watts, Our Ryder Cup Champions!

It was a close match after the morning rounds with Captain John Ward’s team holding a 3-point advantage going into the singles. We don’t know if it was a halftime speech or just good drafting, but Team Watts came roaring back in the singles matches. In the end it wasn’t that close, but it always ends up being one of the most fun events we host. Thanks again to the Captains for their time and effort.

CLUB CHAMPION

Atlantic City CC, 2020 Club Champion, Matt "Boo''Johnson.

The weather was far from optimal as it was cold and rainy, but Boo outlasted Ryan Fraser. Ryan, who is a former champion himself, always seems to find himself in or near the finals. This is the third time Boo has won the Club Championship. It was another great event that produced a worthy champion!

LEO FRASER FOUR-BALL

2020 Leo Fraser Four-Ball Champions, Brian Sterback and Bill Driscoll.

The Leo Fraser Four-Ball is a two-man better ball tournament that starts with a field of 32 teams and is played over the entire summer. Brian Sterback and Bill Driscoll outlasted Jim Fraser and Jack Zaborowski for their third title in a row! Dynasty? Talk about a target on your back, this is our plea for someone to de- throne them next year!

BALLAMOR STABLEFORD

Congratulations to Kevin Daughtry & Jim Andreotta for winning 1st Place Net.

Congratulations to Josh Kelley & Andrew Roberts for winning 1st Place Gross.

LADIES APPRECIATION DAY

As the ladies membership continues to grow, we want to encourage all suggestions for more events in the future, for both ladies and co-ed. Special thanks to new member Sarah Graser for putting together a Ladies Appreciation Day at Atlantic City CC.

WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Please welcome all of our new members who have joined us over the last month. We look forward to seeing you on the course and playing in the member events!

SUPERINTENDENT'S CORNER

A THANK YOU FROM MARK BEAUMONT

What a great year of golf it has been at Atlantic City CC! I hope everyone reading this has enjoyed the course as much as we have. Everyone who works here is grateful for all your support this season. We truly hope we’ve provided you with a nice distraction to a crazy year! Better times are coming.

- Mark Beaumont, Superintendent Atlantic City CC

FROST!

Golfers are not the only ones at the course that hate a frost delay, the grounds crew along with the Pro Shop despise them also. Now that we are getting into November, frost delays are going to become more frequent. We understand you are trying to get out early and play golf, and we would like nothing more then to just allow you to get out and enjoy a round and go about your day. Unfortunately, it’s not that simple. The grounds crew is always trying to protect the course to provide the best condition possible year around. Playing on a frosty course will cause damage that will be seen into the spring. We will do everything we can to get you on the course as quick as possible!

- Jeff England – Superintendent Scotland Run GC

FALL HAS ARRIVED!

Fall has finally arrived here at Ballamor! Fall is definitely my favorite season of the year. It calls for jacket weather, leaves changing and falling, and still a great time to get out and play some golf. It’s also a very busy time of year for the golf course maintenance staff. Cleaning up leaves is a seemingly, never-ending task that we will be working on daily in the coming weeks. We also have a few projects that we will be working on in the next month such as, adding much-needed drainage to the beginning of the approach on #6, as well as to the collection area to the left of #17 green. These are historically wet areas, and all the rain we have received this year has furthered the need for supplemental drainage. Another area we will be improving is the practice area. We will be expanding the bentgrass chipping area to provide more options for you to practice your short game and save some strokes. Putt the short ones and swing hard in case you hit it and we’ll see you on the course!

- Scott Rose – Superintendent of Ballamor GC

TIME TO EAT!

WINTER IS COMING

While in years past we have closed the restaurants on Mondays from January thru March, with all the uncertainty this year, we are planning on a further reduced schedule. We have yet to  finalize the hours, but we do anticipate to start earlier than normal. Once we work out the offseason hours in the restaurants, we will send out a separate notice to all members to let you know. Your support has been fantastic this year and we hope the change in hours of operation this offseason is only temporary.
